Arkansas Twisters Join IFL

November 19, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Arkansas Diamonds News Release

The Arkansas Twisters have been a member of the AF2 since the conception of the league in 2000 and we have just completed our 10th anniversary with the completion of the 2009 season. The AF2 dissolved after this last season to separate itself from its parent, Arena Football League. Arena Football 1 was then formed in September 2009.

Arena Football 1 was formed with the existing AF2 teams to move forward and continue to play in 2010. When word spread of the new league several teams from the AFL decided to join the remaining AF2 teams in the newly formed Arena Football 1 league. In October of 2009 Arena Football 1 announced the 16 teams that would make up the newly formed league. We were excited to be a part of the new league and were looking forward to the future. As the organization of the league began Arena Football 1 decided to break into an upper division with higher salaries for players and coaches and a lower division designed to be a developmental league for the upper division. The lower division was originally made up of 7 other teams from AF2. As of last week the lower division had dropped down to 6 teams including the Arkansas Twisters. This would have forced us to play teams up to 4 times for the regular season and lose players and any given time during the season to an upper tier team.

The Arkansas Twisters owners and management were faced with an extremely tough decision. Our decision came down to stability. With the uncertainty and additional teams continuing to drop out of Arena Football 1, we felt it was in our fans and our teams best decision to join a more stable league. That is why today we are very excited to announce that the Arkansas Twisters are the newest members of the IFL.

The IFL, while still a young league, is an up and coming league with 27 teams across the country. We look forward to the new rivalries that will develop with in the coming years.

Our goal is to be sustainable and to continue to bring the excitement of arena football for decades to come. We believe that the combination of the IFL and the history of exciting Arkansas Twister football is something the fans will truly enjoy.
