OHL Announces Top Performers of the Month for November

All Weather Windows OHL Player of the Month - Cody Hodgson, Brampton Battalion

Cody Hodgson was the most dominant forward in the OHL during the month of November leading the league in goals scored with 13 while adding 14 assists for a league-high 27 points in 13 games. Hodgson also had a league-best plus-minus rating of plus-15. Hodgson led the Brampton Battalion to a November record of 12-0-1-0 that was part of a club record 16 straight wins beginning October 13. Hodgson was named the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 9 highlighted by a five-point night where he scored four goals and one assist and was first star of the game in an 8-4 win over the Plymouth Whalers November 6. Hodgson registered a point in 12 of his 13 games including seven multi-point games with two hat-tricks. Hodgson was also named game MVP for Team OHL scoring three goals and one assist in a 6-3 win in Guelph at the 2008 ADT Canada Russia Challenge November 20.

Hodgson, an 18-year-old from Markham, ON has climbed his way to seventh in league scoring with 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points in 20 games. He is in his third season with the Battalion and was selected in the first round, number 10 overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Hodgson was recently invited to Canada's National Junior Team Selection Camp.

OHL Rookie of the Month - Evgeny Grachev, Brampton Battalion

Evgeny Grachev led all OHL rookies in November scoring 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points in 13 games for the Brampton Battalion. Grachev finished the month with a plus-minus rating of plus-5. Grachev scored points in 10 of his 13 games including six multi-point games. He received first star of the game honours in four November games highlighted by his performance on November 16 where he scored all four goals in a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa 67's. Grachev and the Brampton Battalion went 12-0-1-0 in November that included the end of a club record 16 game win streak that began October 13. Grachev competed with the Russian Selects during the two-game Ontario leg of the 2008 ADT Canada Russia Challenge. He scored a shorthanded goal and was named game MVP for Russia in a 6-3 loss in Guelph on November 20.

Grachev, an 18-year-old from Yaroslavl, Russia, leads all OHL rookies in scoring with 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points in 24 games this season with the Battalion. Grachev is a New York Rangers prospect having been selected in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in the third round, number 75 overall.

OHL Defenceman of the Month - T.J. Brodie, Saginaw Spirit

T.J. Brodie scored three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in only nine games on defence for the Saginaw Spirit with a plus-minus rating of plus-5. Brodie helped lift the Spirit to a record of 8-2-0-1 in the month of November where they currently rest third in the Western Conference standings. Brodie registered a point in eight of his nine November games, five of which were multi-point games. His best performance came on November 22 when he scored a shorthanded goal and four assists for five points in a 5-2 road win over the Barrie Colts where he was named first star of the game. Brodie also competed with Team OHL at the 2008 ADT Canada Russia Challenge on November 20 in Guelph.

Brodie, an 18-year-old from Dresden, ON, is in his third season with the Spirit and is well on pace for his best offensive season currently ranked fifth among OHL defencemen in scoring with five goals and 20 assists for 25 points in 20 games. Brodie was drafted in the fourth round, 114 overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

OHL Goaltender of the Month - Mike Murphy, Belleville Bulls

Mike Murphy led all OHL goaltenders with the best goals-against-average at 1.77 and save percentage at .951 in the month of November. In his 11 starts between the pipes for the Bulls, Murphy did not lose a game in regulation time compiling a 9-0-1-1 record while turning aside a league-high 385 shots. Murphy was recognized for his solid play as the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 2. Highlights of his month include a shutout win with 27 saves and third star of the game honours November 7 in a 3-0 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. Murphy was twice named the first star of the game including a 50 save performance in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Ottawa 67's. With his 4-2 win over the Erie Otters on November 27 Murphy became just the fifth Bulls goaltender to record 60 career regular season wins. Murphy also made 16 saves representing Team OHL in the 2008 ADT Canada Russia Challenge November 24 in St. Catharines.

Murphy, a 19-year-old from Inverary, ON, is the reigning OHL Goaltender of the Year and currently has the lowest goals-against-average in the league at 1.96 and the best save percentage at .944 through 24 games this season with two shutouts. Murphy was selected in the sixth round, number 165 overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
