Colorado Lightning Soccer Team Signs Head Coach

(Loveland, CO) - Colorado Lightning Soccer and former Major League Soccer star, Rafael Amaya, long time Colorado soccer icon, have agreed to a deal which makes Amaya head coach for the team's inaugural season. The Lightning will play eight home games at the Budweiser Events Center, starting with the season opener Sunday, November 2.
Shannon Clarke, Head of Soccer Operations, knows how much the indoor soccer experience matters when it comes to leading an arena team. "Rafa has a wealth of combined playing and coaching experience both in and outdoors," said Clake. "He knows how much faster the indoor game is compared to the outdoor."
Amaya's 12 years of professional playing experience include stints with the San Jose Clash and Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer. As a coach, Amaya has spent extensive time with elite national teams, including US Amateur U-23. For the past seven years he has been the Director of Coaching for U-14 - U-23 age groups for Colorado Storm Soccer Club.
Amays, 41, was born in Colombia, South America and is married with four children. He attended Long Island University, where he studied Business and Communications. Amaya can also be heard as a commentator on TV Azteca for the Colorado Rapids.

The top-tier of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) has four divisions: Western US, Western Canada, Eastern US, and Mexico. The Western Division includes the following teams: Stockton Cougars, CA., Wenatchee Fire, WA., Denver Dynamite, and Colorado Lightning. The Lightning play 16 regular season games in total, eight at home at the Budweiser Events Center. Teams in the PASL will play six vs. six, including goalkeepers, on an indoor field 85 feet wide by 200 feet long during four 15 minute quarters (sudden death, if needed).
