Ford Center vote passes

March 5, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Oklahoma City Blazers News Release

Oklahoma City - Voters Tuesday overwhelmingly supported $100 million in upgrades to the Ford Center, where the Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League serve as prime tenant.

The 62-to-38 percent outcome extends a 1-cent sales tax for 12 months beginning January 1, 2009. The Ford Center's footprint will increase from 586,000 square feet to an estimated 800,000 feet.

Planned Ford Center Improvements and Added Amenities include:

- Major Expansion on the Main Concourse - including first-class finishes on walls, flooring, restrooms, and improved lighting throughout;

- Massive New Main Entrance and inviting Lobby on the south end of the arena;

- A revamped Club and Suite Level with versatile luxury seating options for specific needs, equipped with state-of-the-art audio and video elements;

- Restaurants, Clubs, re-vamped and additional Concession Areas;

- Family Fun Zone and Rooftop Garden located on the 300 level; and many other fan-friendly features associated with today's new major league indoor venues.

"This is an exciting time for our metro-area and Blazers Hockey," said Brad Lund, chief executive officer of Express Sports/OKC Blazers. "We look forward to hosting our loyal following inside one of the premier home-ices in North America."

The $100 million renovation is projected to take 18-to-24 months and will be implemented via phases over the next two hockey seasons. "The final outcome will far outweigh the short-term inconvenience," Lund added.

The Blazers return home to the Ford Center on Sunday. Faceoff is 6:05 p.m. The 16-year-old franchise has captured the minor league hockey attendance title on five occasions and are second among North American minor pro teams in average attendance at 8,512.
