Havoc rally, win in overtime

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Huntsville Havoc scored three goals in the third period tying the game before winning in a shootout over the Knoxville Ice Bears Saturday night in front of a record crowd of 7,083.

James Patterson and Tim Hockley scored in the shootout for Huntsville while Kevin Swider managed the only goal for the Ice Bears.

The game was tied 2-2 after the first period and Rob Flynn and Bob Rangus scored for Knoxville and Mike O'Sullivan and Bill Monkman scored for the Havoc.

Knoxville took, what looked like a commanding lead in the second period by outscoring the Havoc 3-1. Nathan Daly, K.C. Caudill and Mike Tuomi gave the Ice Bears a 5-2 lead. James Patterson cut the lead to 5-3 with :06 left in the period on a 5-on-3.

Patterson cut the lead to 5-4 with another powerplay goal 1:25 into the third period. Mike Craigen gave the Ice Bears another two-goal lead with his own powerplay with 15:07 left.

Mike Degurse scored his first goal since returning with 5:18 left and Craig Bushey tied the score with 2:04 left with the fourth Havoc powerplay goal.

Matt Carmichael stopped 39 shots and four shots in the shootout to get the win. Terry Dunbar stopped 36 and three in the shootout.

Tristan Senior had five assists for the Havoc.

The crowd of 7,083 set a record for a sporting event in the Von Braun Center breaking the record set in 2000 by the Tennessee Valley Vipers of the af2 at 7,042.
