SPOKANE, WA (October 12, 2005) - The Spokane Shock epitomizes entertainment, and not just when it comes to football. Watching this new arena football team take form is compelling in itself. The Shock now has a committed coach, open tryouts begin Saturday, recruiting is in full force, and the dance team is soon to be dancing.
Coach Chris Siegfried has officially signed as head coach for the 2006 season. He has coached in the arenafootball2 league since 2001, and he has brought two expansion teams to the playoffs. He led the Cape Fear Wildcats to a 38-18 record over his three-year reign as head coach, which included three playoff appearances, and two championships.
Siegfried, with his wife and kids, will be making the 2850-mile move to the Spokane area from Windermere, FL. He feels he is only to gain from this move.
"[Spokane is] a beautiful town with a beautiful arena and wonderful people, so it was an easy decision," Siegfried said. "The ownership is as committed to me, as I am to the team, and their enthusiasm is the same enthusiasm I have for putting a great product on the field. It is a win-win situation, and I hope to be in Spokane for a long, long time."
Open player tryouts begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, at the Spokane Soccer Center. Although the minimum requirement to tryout is "some college experience," Brady Nelson, owner and CEO, expects to see a lot more. "The word âathlete' typifies the type of players we will have on our team," Nelson said. "We'll have a high caliber of talent, including college Division I players from all over the country, some local flavor who have played in other professional leagues-a lot of extremely good players who are looking for another shot."
The Shock will be entering the arena football ranks in 2006, with the first game being April 1. Eight home games will be played at the Spokane Arena.

The Spokane Shock is part of the arenafootball2 league's Western Division. Division competition includes four California teams, and Everett, WA. Their mission and rules of play follow that of the Arena Football League. The Shock wear navy blue, orange and yellow while competing in a 16-game season, including 8 home games in the Spokane Arena.
