Louisville Fire News Release
The Louisville Fire Arena Football team expected to lose players after winning the American Conference Championship this past season. The Fire will have to start by replacing the 2005 af2 Offensive Player of the Year Matt Sauk. Sauk has been signed by the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League.
Sauk rewrote the af2 record books during the 2005 season breaking the regular season marks in touchdown passes (99), completions (408) and passing yards (4,489). In addition Sauk also led the af2 in passing yards a game (280.6) and attempts (603).
"It's always good to have one of your players move onto the next level. That's what this league is all about," said Fire Head Coach Tommy Johnson. "Matt had a great season and I know he will excel at the next level."
Sauk will join up with his first coach from af2, Brett Munsey, who coached Sauk in Tennessee Valley in 2001. Sauk, who was named American Conference All-af2 First Team in 2005, leaves the Fire with every Fire passing record and is first all-time in af2 in completions with 1,432. Sauk is second all-time in yards (17,142), touchdowns (345) and attempts (2,305). This will be Sauk's second stint in the AFL, he was with the Los Angeles Avengers in 2002.
The Fire will host their first open tryout on Saturday at 1:00 PM in Cardinal Stadium in the Fairgrounds. Registration will start at Noon and the cost will be $50.
Season tickets for the 2006 season are on sale now starting at just $80. Season tickets can be purchased by calling (502)368-0009 or visiting www.louisvillefirefootball.com.
