Revolution signs forward Khano Smith

Foxborough, Mass. - The New England Revolution announced today that the team has signed Bermuda National Team forward Khano Smith to the team's 18-man senior roster. Smith, 24, will count as a Youth International will not occupy a Senior International slot. Per team and MLS policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed.

The Revolution also announced that the team has waived defender Carlos Llamosa, opting to not pick up an option in the player's contract. The eight-season Major League Soccer veteran is now free to pursue playing options with other clubs.

Smith, who has 15 caps for the Bermuda National Team, starred for Lees-McCrae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina where he earned Division II First Team All-America honors in 2002. He finished his college career with 47 goals, 19 assists and 113 points. After college, Smith played in the USL's D3 pro league for the Carolina Dynamo. Most recently, he has been playing in Bermuda's Premier League, winning the 2004 league and cup double with Dandy Town Hornets. He will join the Revolution pending completion of his work visa.

Smith came to the attention of Revolution head coach Steve Nicol on New England's recent preseason trip to Bermuda when he scored for his country in the Revs' 3-2 victory over Bermuda on March 3 in Hamilton. "Khano is a big, strong forward who is also a good soccer player," said Nicol. "He was impressive when we trained with us in Ecuador and he will immediately add another good option for us at striker."

The Revolution parts ways with Llamosa after three seasons. A three-time MLS All-Star, Llamosa played in 38 regular season games and eight playoff games with the Revolution between 2002-04. The former U.S. international missed the entire 2004 regular season and playoffs after tearing the ACL in his left knee during preseason.

"Carlos has been a class act from the time he got here right up to the present," said Revolution head coach Steve Nicol. "He was a big part of the Revolution's success during his time playing here. The club wishes him well for the future."
