
Warthogs announce 2004 Bill Slack award winner

Winston-Salem, NC â The Winston-Salem Warthogs announced on Monday that Wayne Davis has been awarded the 2004 Bill Slack Community Service Award. The award is in honor of Bill Slack, former Winston-Salem skipper and the Carolina League's all-time winningest manager. Slack won 925 games in Winston-Salem in 13 seasons. Since 1981, Davis has conducted the Warthogs' team baseball chapels. He has been an active member in the Warthogs' Booster Club for over ten years and is now serving as its treasurer. Born and raised in Oklahoma City, OK, Davis graduated from Central State University in Edmond, OK, and served over 13 years in the U.S. Navy. Davis is a member of the Agape Faith Church in Winston-Salem and has been Deacon and in the "HELPS" Ministry for 20 years. Davis will receive the award on Tuesday, January 27 at the Warthogs' Hot Stove Banquet.
