March 24, 2009 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, March 24, 2009) - Real Salt Lake and Rio Tinto Stadium welcome 94.1 KODJ personality Steve Harmon this Friday, March 27, when the host of the "Harmon and the Breakfast Club" morning drive-time show will stage a "Rio Tinto Stadium Sit-In" to raise funds on behalf of the Utah/Idaho Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation for juvenile arthritis programs and services.
Harmon will sit in each of the new Sandy venue's 20,008 seats beginning Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Fans are encouraged to donate $20 - or one-tenth of a penny per seat - to support the cause; to donate, fans and listeners can call the Utah/Idaho Chapter office at 801-536-0990 or 800-444-4993 up to and during the day of the event.
"Our show is always looking for the answer to, âWhat Big Thing will we do next?'" said Harmon. "We knew Real Salt Lake was getting ready to open its season, and we had met little Anna Snyder - the Utah Ambassador for Juvenile Arthritis - and then the idea came ... sit in every seat at Rio Tinto Stadium to let Utah know about kids in pain, kids dealing with something that we know many adults struggle with - arthritis. Plus, Real Salt Lake didn't think I could do it, and I can't turn down a good challenge!"
Harmon has vowed that, once he gets going, his butt will touch each and every seat in the Stadium no matter how long it takes ... but he will be accepting offers from "celebrity guest sitters" to swing by throughout the day to give him some encouragement (and maybe a brief break) as he makes his way around Rio Tinto Stadium. Media interested in covering Friday's "Rio Tinto Stadium Sit-In" are asked to contact John Koluder in the RSL Soccer Media Services Department at jkoluder@RealSaltLake.com or 801-727-2716 for more details.
The Arthritis Foundation is the only nationwide, non-profit health organization helping people take greater control of arthritis by leading efforts to prevent, control and cure arthritis and related diseases. The Arthritis Foundation provides a large number of community-based programs and services nationwide to make life with arthritis, a serious and sometimes deadly disease, easier and less painful. Friday's event hopes to draw further attention to juvenile arthritis, one of the most common childhood diseases in the United States, affecting approximately 300,000 children under the age of 18 nationwide, including 2,000 kids in Utah.
