Ottawa 67's News Release
(Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67's today announced that Assistant Coach Mark Grady has resigned from the team, effective immediately.
In a statement, Grady explained that his decision to leave the team stems from a ruling last month by Ontario's Grievance Settlement Board over a harassment complaint filed eight years ago by a guard at the Ottawa jail where he worked. "I couldn't let a situation that had nothing to do with the 67's potentially tarnish their reputation in the community," said Grady. "For the sake of the team, and my family, I decided to step down and work to clear the damage to my reputation that was caused by allegations that were made public by the Grievance Settlement Board. To date, I have not yet had the opportunity to defend myself in any forum. I'd like to thank 67's owner Jeff Hunt, General Manager Brian Kilrea and Head Coach Chris Byrne for giving me the opportunity to coach at the OHL level, and I look forward to the day when this matter is resolved and the allegations against me are proven to be false."
Ottawa 67's Owner and Governor Jeff Hunt accepted Grady's resignation and commented: "I'm deeply saddened and disappointed that it had to come to this. Mark has proven himself to be a great coach and he has definitely helped our team. I'm hopeful that he'll be able to prove the allegations against him are false and that he and his family will be able to re-group and move forward from this difficult situation."
Mark Grady joined the 67's as an assistant coach at the start of the current season after spending four years as Head Coach with the Central Junior Hockey League's Cumberland Grads. He continues to work in Provincial Law Enforcement. No further comment on this matter will be made by the 67's or Mr. Grady.
