66ers Walk Home With First Win Of Season

SAN BERNARDINO, CA - After a pair of defeats, the Inland Empire 66ers turned the tables on the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, recording their first win of the season, 4-3, at Arrowhead Credit Union Park on Saturday.

With the game tied 3-3 in the eighth, Eduardo Perez was hit by a pitch from Ysmael Carmona to begin the inning. After reaching third base with one out, Carmona issued a balk allowing Perez to score the decisive run.

The 66ers (1-2) got on the board in the second inning with a solo shot to center by Steven Caseres off Quakes starter, Tim Kiely. They would get two more in the third, as Rafael Ynoa led off on a walk and was driven in on a scorching triple to right by Christian Lara. Perez brought in Lara with an infield single to make it 3-0, 66ers.

Inland Empire starter Steven Johnson battled for five and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out eight and walking only one. Greg Miller, Miguel Ramirez, and Justin Orenduff pitched three and two-thirds scoreless innings to close out the game. Orenduff (1-0) struck out three over the final two innings for his first win.

After two runs in the fifth the Quakes (2-1) tied it an inning later. Julio Perez launched his second home run of the series over the wall in left to tie the game.

The 66ers will look for a series split on Sunday at 1:05PM. Chris Withrow takes the hill for the 66ers while Robert Fish gets the nod for the Quakes.
