Inland Empire 66ers News Release

The Inland Empire 66ers (31-36) dropped their final home game of the first half, losing to the San Jose Giants (36-31) 7-1 Wednesday night. With Rancho Cucamonga winning today, Inland Empire is eliminated from winning the 1st half division crown.

The 66ers offense struggled to solve Giants starter Justin Schumer as they could only muster four hits off of him in his quality start. 66ers right fielder Randal Grichuk was one of the few bright spots as he launched a solo homer off of Schumer for his sixth blast of the year. Center fielder Travis Witherspoon finished the game going 2 for 4 to raise his team-leading batting average to .314.

66ers starter Ryan Crowley had trouble with his pitch count and was removed in the 5th. 66ers relievers Kevin Nabors and Bryant George settled down the pitching for Inland Empire as they each gave up only a hit and an unearned run and combined for three strikeouts. Reliever Manuel Flores pitched a scoreless 9th to keep the Giants off the board.

The 66ers begin on the road their final set before the All-Star break with the Lancaster JetHawks tomorrow at 7:05 pm. The game can be heard on the home of 66ers baseball KCAA 1050 AM beginning with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pre-Game show at 6:55.
