66ers Acquire Nine Players

October 31, 2012 - NBA G League (G League)
Tulsa 66ers News Release

TULSA, Okla., Wednesday, October 31, 2012 - The Tulsa 66ers, proud affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder, named nine players to their training camp roster Wednesday.

The 66ers acquired Thunder training camp invites center Daniel Orton, guard Andy Rautins and forward Hollis Thompson along with Tulsa returners including center Brian Barkdoll, forward Will Creekmore and guards Brady Morningstar and Garrett Williamson. The 66ers also extended training camp invitations to forward Mario Little and guard James Justice, who both participated in Tulsa's open tryouts.

Orton, Rautins and Thompson were the final three roster cuts from Oklahoma City's training camp and all saw playing time throughout the Thunder preseason. The NBA/NBPA Collective Bargaining Agreement permits up to three players waived from an NBA training camp roster to be assigned to the team's NBA Development League affiliate.

Orton (6-10, 255), an Oklahoma native, scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds against Charlotte (10/16) in his lone Thunder preseason appearance. The Kentucky product saw action in 16 games last season as a member of the Orlando Magic, averaging 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds

Rautins (6-4, 190) averaged 7.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals in his four preseason appearances, including a 20-point performance against Charlotte (10/16). The Syracuse product played in five games in 2010-11 as a member of the New York Knicks and spent the 2011-12 season playing in Spain for Lucentum Alicante.

Thompson (6-8, 212) played in three preseason games, averaging 2.7 points and 2.0 rebounds. A rookie from Georgetown, Thompson was signed by the Thunder in July as an undrafted free agent.

Barkdoll, Creekmore and Morningstar are all returning from the 2011-12 Tulsa squad. The NBA D-League permits teams to acquire players who were on the roster during the previous two seasons and not waived via the Returning Player Rights Rule.

Barkdoll (6-11, 225) averaged 1.2 points and 1.5 rebounds in 29 games in 2011-12. Creekmore (6-9, 235) grabbed 1.6 rebounds a game in nine appearances. Morningstar (6-4, 185) averaged 9.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 48 appearances. The former Kansas Jayhawk led the 66ers in free throw percentage last season by shooting 75-for-84 (.893).

Williamson (6-5, 200), who was a 66er in the 2010-11 season, spent the past year playing for Ehingen in Germany. Two years ago, the St. Joseph's product averaged 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 21 games in Tulsa.

Little (6-6, 218) and Justice (5-10, 165) both received training camp invites after being among the 63 players to participate in Tulsa's open tryouts on Oct. 21 and 22. Little, a forward from the University of Kansas, was a part of three Big 12 regular-season championship teams, appearing in 55 games in his three seasons. A guard from Martin Methodist College in Tennessee, Justice is the reigning NCAA Slam Dunk Champion.

Tulsa will add to its training camp roster during the 2012 NBA D-League Draft on Friday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. CT. The 66ers will be granted the sixth pick of the draft and will have the opportunity to make eight total selections throughout the night.
