Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - With the 2010-11 Home Opener just over two weeks away, several members of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have either left or are about to leave for their respective National Hockey League Training Camps.

Three players including Scott Glennie were the first to leave this week. The eighth player chosen overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Glennie is off to Dallas. Joining him en route to NHL Camp earlier this week were right-winger Mark Stone and left-winger Michael Ferland.

While Ferland was the Calgary Flames' fifth round selection in this June's Entry Draft, Stone was chosen by the Ottawa Senators in round six.

Two more Wheat Kings - center Brayden Schenn and defenceman Brodie Melnychuk - are scheduled to leave on Thursday for Los Angeles. While Melnychuk has received a free agent tryout with the Anaheim Ducks, Schenn is off to join the Kings.

The fifth overall selection in the 2009 draft in Montreal, Schenn leaves Brandon after tweaking his knee during practice on Tuesday afternoon at Westman Place. As a result, the 19-year old Saskatoon product did not skate on Wednesday and will have his knee evaluated in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Meanwhile 20-year old right-winger David Toews is scheduled to leave for Islanders' camp in Uniondale, New York this Saturday.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings continue to prepare for this weekend's pre-season home and home series with the Regina Pats, beginning Friday night at the Brandt Centre. The two teams will close out the weekend the following night in Brandon.

Thursday is Season Ticket Pick-up Day in the South End Parking Lot of the Keystone Centre. Fans are encouraged to stop by and pick up their 2010-11 Season Tickets from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
