LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, announced today that the baseball game on Tuesday, April 25 between the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland A's, and the 51s will begin at a special time of 10:30 a.m. at Cashman Field.
The 51s will present "The Third Annual Cox Communications School Day" featuring a field trip available to 5th grade students in the Clark County School District.
Over the past two seasons, a total of 11,075 fans have attended the special morning games. Last season, a crowd of 6,851 attended the game on May 9 between the Rivers Cats and 51s. Las Vegas hosted Tucson in the inaugural "school day" game on May 6, 2004, before a crowd of 4,224.
"The school day game has gained in popularity and last season we had a larger contingent of the students attend the event," 51s President/General Manager Don Logan said. "The kids had a great time last year and the game serves as a fun and educational experience for the students with both the Tobacco Awareness Program and the opportunity to watch the 51s play baseball. We also thank Cox Communications for their partnership of this event."
The Tobacco Awareness Program, through the Clark County School District, is an important event that serves to educate the young students on the dangers of cigarette smoking.
The 51s, under manager Jerry Royster, will open their 24th PCL season on Thursday, April 6 against Fresno, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field. Season tickets and mini-plan packages (10, 20, 33-game plans) are available by calling the 51s office at (702) 798-7825 or log on to the team's website.
The 51s have an exciting list of promotions for the 2006 season. A total of 34 promotion dates will be featured during the home season. The traditional fireworks shows and 51s and Dodgers giveaway items will highlight the promotion dates.
Official licensed 51s team merchandise is available by calling (702) 386-8884 or on the team's website.
