Adirondack Phantoms News Release
The Phantoms blasted away for 23 shots in the 3rd period on Hamilton goalie Curtis Sanford but it wasn't enough as Adirondack fell to the North Division leading Bulldogs 3-2 Wednesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The 23 shots in a single period was five more than their previous season high of 18.
Danny Syvret scored in his first game back with the Phantoms after a four player trade with the Anaheim organization earlier in the week and rookie Luke Pither connected on a breakaway opportunity for his first goal as a pro. Max Pacioretty led the Bulldogs attack with pair of goals while Sanford turned aside 39 out of 41 total shots in the win.
Trailing 3-1 late in the 3rd period, Ian Schultz of Hamilton received an extra minor penalty in a fight with the Phantoms' Zac Rinaldo. With a pulled goalie for a 6-on-4 attack, Danny Syvret cut the Phantoms deficit to one on a big right point slapshot assisted by Erik Gustafsson and Jonathon Kalinski. Adirondack then had some great chances in the remaining seconds of the game to tie the game at 3-3. Denis Hamel threw a puck to the front of the net where Michael Ryan stood and just missed putting the loose puck home and Hamilton was able to hang on for the 3-2 final.
In the first period with less than 10 minutes remaining, Bulldogs right-winger J.T. Wyman found David Desharnias behind the net who centered the puck out front to a wide-open Max Pacioretty, the Bulldogs leading goal scorer, beat Johan Backlund top shelf to give Hamilton a 1-0 lead. It was Pacioretty's first of two goals on the night.
Adirondack tied the score at 1-1 in the second period on a long stretch pass by Marc-Andre Bourdon up to Luke Pither on a breakaway who buried his first career goal at the 10:30 mark. The Burketon, Ontario native had 36 goals and 94 points last season with the Barrie Colts of the OHL. The shortlived tie would be broken just 25 seconds later. Max Pacioretty scored his second goal of the game and tenth of the season from the right wing circle to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
In the third period, Andrew Conboy gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead on a feed from Gabriel Dumont. It was Conboy's fourth of the season.
The Phantoms outshot Hamilton in the final frame 23-6 in a dominating effort but could only get the one Syvret blast past Sanford.
Goaltender Johan Backlund made 30 saves in the loss while counterpart Curtis Sanford held off the Phantoms in the third period to secure his seventh win of the season stopping 39 shots.
Adirondack went 1-for-9 on the power play while Hamilton went 0-for-1.
