Reading Fightin Phils News Release

FirstEnergy Stadium will host the 9th Annual Baseballtown 222 Showcase on Tuesday, April 5th at 6:35 p.m. The exhibition game, which pits the top prospects from the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils and Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs against each other, is once again presented by Capital BlueCross.

Because of Capital BlueCross's generous sponsorship, all ticket money from the 222 Showcase will benefit charities once again. This year, ticket money will not only benefit Baseballtown Charities, helping more kids in the City of Reading play baseball, but will also aid many other local non-profit organizations.

All non-profit organizations are invited to sign up for the free program and take part in the annual showcase event with a special fundraising offer. For every $5 general admission ticket sold through your group's promotion code, the Fightins and Capital BlueCross will donate that money right back to your organization. Thanks to Capital BlueCross, groups can simply sign up, send out an e-mail to their supporters with a special link, and for all tickets sold via that link, the entire $5 comes back to their non-profit organization. To get involved, non-profit leaders can contact Mike Robinson at 610-370-BALL ext. 229 or e-mail him at mrobinson@fightins.com. Upon completion of the event, a check will be sent to your organization.

"The Baseballtown 222 Showcase is more than an exhibition game between two of our region's most beloved teams," said Amy Nilsen, Capital BlueCross manager of community relations. "The game rallies the community together to support a great cause - raising funds to bring baseball to local children who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to play. Baseball is not only America's favorite pastime - it is also such a fun way for kids to stay fit, socialize and learn teamwork. Through sponsorship of programs like the Baseballtown 222 Showcase, Capital BlueCross strives to be more than an insurance company. We aim to help make our community healthier and an even better place to live, work and play."

Tickets for the exhibition game are on sale now via Fightins.com, over the phone at 610-370-BALL, and at the Fightins Ticket Office located at FirstEnergy Stadium. Seating for the entire game is General Admission and tickets cost $5, with all proceeds benefitting Baseballtown Charities and other non-profit groups thanks our partners at Capital BlueCross.

The all-time series stands at 4-3 between the two clubs after Reading won 2014's contest, 4-3. Last year's game was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Fightins will seek for their fourth straight win of the series in this year's game.

Baseballtown Charities, a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity, was launched over a decade ago in association with the Reading Fightin Phils in order to keep baseball alive in Reading through charitable donations to underprivileged youth, who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to play baseball. The organization was also founded to pay tribute to Reading's rich baseball history.

The Fightin Phils will kick off the 2016 season on Thursday, April 7th at 7:05 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium when the team takes on the Portland Sea Dogs. Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets for 2016 can be purchased online at Fightins.com, by phone at 610-370-BALL, or by visiting the FirstEnergy Stadium Ticket Office.
