Saginaw, MI - Five Saginaw Spirit players hope to hear their name called at the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft being held at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Que, home of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens.
The first round is scheduled for Thursday, July 7 at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN and streaming on ESPN+ (U.S), and Sportsnet (CAN). Rounds 2-7 will be held on Friday, July 8 beginning at 11:00 a.m. on NHL Network and streaming on ESPN+ (U.S.) and Sportsnet (CAN).
NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings:
The Spirit have three players featured on the final rankings of the NHL Central Scouting list for the 2022 NHL Draft. Pavel Mintyukov is ranked sixth among North American Skaters as the top-rated defenseman. Matyas Sapovaliv is ranked 23rd among North American skaters and is the sixth ranked forward from the Ontario Hockey League. Goaltender Andrew Oke comes into the 2022 NHL Draft as the top ranked goaltender in the OHL. He is rated ninth among North American goaltenders, overall.
Spirit Draft Eligible:
In addition to Mintyukov, Sapovaliv, and Oke, Roberto Mancini and Dean Loukus also hope to hear their name called at the 2022 NHL Draft.
Roberto Mancini: 64GP 11G-17A-28PTS (career highs in all offensive categories) 79 PIMS (led team). This is Mancini's second-year eligible for the NHL Draft.
Dean Loukus: 64GP 22G-29A-51PTS (led team in +/- with +1)
Spirit History at NHL Draft:
Since the 2003 NHL Draft, the Spirit have had a total of 60 players selected by NHL teams. The Spirit's highest selection came at the 2020 NHL Draft, when the Winnipeg Jets selected Cole Perfetti in the first round, 10th overall.
The most rostered Spirit players selected in an individual draft is five, happening a total of four times. ('04 - Miedl, Birner, Maunu, Haskins, J.M. Risk '05 - O'Marra, Bass, Pyatt, McNeill, Kvapil '06 - Corrente, Williams, Zaborsky, Daniels, Mursak '11 - Oleksiak, Saad, Trocheck, Camara, Shalla)
Six Spirit players have been selected by the Atlanta Thrashers / Winnipeg Jets franchise, the most of any NHL team. (Eddie Pasquale '09, Ben Chiarot '09, Cody Sol '09, Ivan Telegin '10, Jimmy Lodge '13, and Cole Perfetti '20)
The Spirit have had at least one player selected in each of the last 14 NHL Drafts. That is the fourth longest streak in the entire 60-team Canadian Hockey League.
