2018 Barnstormer Trayvon Robinson Signs with the Pittsburgh Pirates

Lancaster Stormers News Release

Former Lancaster Barnstormers Community Man of the Year Trayvon Robinson has signed a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, it has been announced.

Robinson, 31, has played for the Barnstormers for the last 2 1/2 seasons after parting ways with Somerset in the middle of the 2016 campaign. The switch hitting outfielder from Los Angeles hit .294 over 255 games in Lancaster while clubbing 20 homers and driving home 108 runs. He also rapped out 47 doubles and stole 49 bases in a Barnstormers uniform.

In 2017, Robinson was named the Community Man of the Year for his continuous availability to the fans and media in the Lancaster area.

Prior to coming to the Atlantic League, Robinson had spent a portion of two seasons (2011-12) at the Major League level with the Seattle Mariners and was the left fielder behind Felix Hernandez' perfect game against Tampa Bay on August 15, 2012.

He had also played in the Dodgers, Orioles, Tigers and Diamondbacks farm systems.

Robinson contacted the Pirates and flew himself to Bradenton in mid-February. He called again on March 4 and was invited to compete for a job in the organization.

He is the fourth member of the 2018 Lancaster squad to sign with a big league organization this off-season joining Matt Marksberry (Arizona), Blake Gailen (Dodgers) and Ryan Casteel (Atlanta).

"The Atlantic League is a very, very good league," said Robinson. "Guys from that league can compete anywhere."

"It's great to see Tray get another opportunity," said Lancaster manager Ross Peeples. "He has been great for us and has certainly put in the work. We wish him the best of luck."
