2015 NAHL Blaine Showcase Recap - Wilderness Go 2-2

Day 1 -

MN Wilderness 2 vs. Odessa 1 - Wilderness goalie Chase Munroe made 28 saves as the defending Robertson Cup Champions picked up their first win of the season with a close 2-1 victory over Odessa. After a scoreless 1st period, the Jackalopes were the first t get on the board as early in the 2nd period Zach Zech lit the lamp for his first goal of the season. Just over a minute later, the Wilderness responded with a goal from Ryan Bloom to tie the game at 1-1. Just over a minute into the 3rd period the Wilderness would strike for the eventual game-winning goal as Mitch Slattery scored on a 2 on 1 on a nice backdoor pass from Tyler Cline. Odessa goalie Dean Shatzer made 24 saves in the loss.

Day 2 -

MN Wilderness 3 vs. Amarillo 1 - The Wilderness answered an early Bulls scored and scored three unanswered goals to pick up their second win in as many days at the Showcase as they beat Amarillo 3-1. Chase Munroe made 18 saves in the win. Just over three minutes into the game, it was the Bulls who jumped ahead 1-0 on a goal from Brady Crabtree. Six minutes later, the Wilderness tied the game with a power play goal from Casey Gilling. In the 2nd period, Ryan Bloom smashed home a rebound while on the power play to make it 2-1. Gilling would add his second goal of the game early in the 3rd period to make the final score 3-1. Jacob Weatherly made 35 saves in the Bulls loss.

Day 3 -

Lone Star 3 vs. MN Wilderness 2 - The Brahmas handed the Wilderness their first loss of the Showcase as they staged off a late rally to win, 3-2. It was all Brahmas in the 1st period as they scored all three of their goals in the opening stanza. Tomas Brejcha opened the scoring, which was followed by goals from Peter Kessel and Alex Berardinelli. The Wilderness tried to claw back with a 2nd period goal from Alex Toscano and a 3rd period goal from Mitch Slattery. However, the Brahmas hung onto win thanks to 20 saves from Corbin Kaczperski. Dylan Lubbesmeyer took the loss making 8 saves and was pulled in favor of Chase Munroe after the 1st period.

Day 4 -

Aberdeen 2 vs. MN Wilderness 1 (OT) - In a goaltenders duel, Wings netminder Peter Thome made 30 saves as Aberdeen edged the Wilderness 2-1 in overtime. The Wings finished the event at 3-1, while the Wilderness went 2-1-1. Chase Munroe also played well in goal for Minnesota, making 14 saves. The two teams went scoreless through the first two periods. The Wings took a 1-0 lead early in the 3rd period with a goal from Tucker DeYoung. The Wilderness responded with just over three minutes remaining in regulation with a goal from Kody Bender. In the 3 on 3 overtime, Ryan Cook converted on a 1 on 1 putting home his own rebound high over Munroe for the game-winner.
