2013 with the Lobsters: A Season To Remember

August 20, 2013 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Boston Lobsters News Release

Although the Lobsters fell short of their ultimate goal of capturing the King Trophy as the WTT champions, 2013 will be a season the team will look back on with a lot of pride.

It was a season of new beginnings for Coach Schultz and the Lobsters. 2013 marked the first season in their new stadium, The Joan Norton Tennis Center at Manchester Athletic Club. Lobsters don't like being far from the ocean, so Manchester-by-the-Sea provided an ideal location. A new stadium was not the only thing new in 2013. With only Eric Butroc returning from the 2012 team, it was up to new group of Lobsters led by Mark Philippoussis, Amir Weintraub and fan favorite Jill Craybas to carry the team.

Coming into the season, Coach Bud Schultz believed he had veteran players that could handle the rigors of playing 15 matches in 19 days. That belief was justified when the Lobsters advanced all the way to the Eastern conference finals before falling in overtime to the eventual champion Washington Kastles.

The Lobsters and WTT season may be over, but for the players tennis season never ends. After a short break, they will continue on with the hard court season and the U.S. Open at the end of the month.

2013 Boston Lobsters with our Amazing Corps of Volunteers The 2014 WTT season may seem like a long way off, but when you come as close to winning a championship as the Lobsters did, the need to keep clawing to the top never stops.
