
2009 Saints All-Star Pitcher Brandon Kintzler Headed to Major Leagues with Brewers

ST. PAUL, MN (September 6, 2010) - St. Paul Saints pitcher Brandon Kintzler opened up some eyes at the American Association All-Star Game in 2009. On September 6, 2010 Kintzler's hard work paid off and is headed to the Major League's getting a September call-up by the Milwaukee Brewers.
The 26-year-old Kintzler began this season at Double-A Huntsville where he was dominant as a closer. He was 1-0 with a 0.40 ERA and 10 saves in 20 games. In 22.1 innings he allowed two runs (one earned) while walking just one and striking out 23 with opponents hitting a miniscule .141 against him. Those numbers earned him a promotion to Triple-A Nashville.
With Nashville he continued his dominance going 3-0 with a 2.36 ERA and six saves in 22 relief appearances. In 26.2 innings pitched he allowed just seven runs, walking six and striking out 21 while opponents hit a microscopic .196 against him.
Kintzler began the 2009 season with the Saints and he dominated the American Association. He was 8-3 with a 2.79 ERA and one complete game in 14 games (11 starts). In 80.2 innings pitched he walked 24 and struck out 46 while opponents hit .277 against him. He was selected to the American Association All-Star Game and got the start going 2.0 shutout innings allowing one hit while striking out three.
The Brewers took notice and on July 22 his contract was purchased by Milwaukee and they sent him to Double-A Huntsville where he was 1-2 with a 4.54 ERA in nine games (six starts). In 35.2 innings pitched he walked nine and struck out 32 while opponents hit .285 against him.
Kintzler was a 40th round pick by the San Diego Padres in the 2004 June Amateur Draft and spent two seasons in their organization reaching Single-A Fort Wayne in 2005. After missing the entire 2006 season with an injury he spent 2007-08 with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern League before coming to the Saints in an off-season trade before the '09 season.
Kintzler is the 16th player in Saints history to reach the Major Leagues.
