Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The best-of-five South Division Championship Series is coming to Pensacola. With Pensacola and the Fort Worth Cats splitting the first two games in Texas, Pelican Park will host playoff games Friday and Saturday, with a game on Sunday if necessary. Tickets start at $8 and provide an excellent opportunity for Pensacola to unite in support of their team.
Pensacola took a 1-0 series lead after a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday. Aaron Jackson was stellar as the starter and three Pelicans went deep in Pensacola's first playoff game win in the American Association. The Cats rallied back Wednesday night, jumping on the Pelicans early and sustaining an 8-2 victory. The Pelicans are scheduled to start Kieran Mattison against the Cats' Jae Hun Jung on Friday. The Pelicans' bats have been a highlight, as Antoin Gray has two home runs in the playoffs, and Marshall McDougall hit his first round-tripper as a Pelican on Tuesday night.
This is Pensacola's first playoff appearance in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. The last time the Pelicans were in the playoffs was in 2005 as part of the Central League. The Pelicans and Cats faced each other in the divisional playoffs in that year, with both teams splitting the first four games before the Cats prevailed in game five.
Tickets are available online at www.pensacolapelicans.com, via phone by calling (850) 934-8444, or in person at the Box Office of Pelican Park on the campus of the University of West Florida.
