BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Bloomington PrairieThunder coach Jarrod Skalde announced the team's roster Tuesday for the 2009-10 International Hockey League season.
Returning players from last year's team include captain and IHL all-star Jon Booras, the team's career leader in goals scored, points and games played. Booras finished second in the league last season with 100 points.
He will be joined by returnees Bill Bagron, Brett Holmberg, Jan Jas, Adam Tomkow, Matt Frick, Jason Lepine and Russ Smith. Frick, Lepine and Smith are defensemen, while the others are forwards/centers. The goaltenders are Paulo Colaiacovo and Andrew Martin.
There are four veterans and five rookies on the 19-man roster. Newcomers Ryan Finnerty and Robin Gomez join Jas and Frick with 300 or more professional games under their belts. IHL teams are limited to a maximum of eight veterans on their rosters.
The rookies are Matt McIlvane, Cole Ruwe, Trevor Geiger, Armando Scarlato and Tomkow, who played 57 games with the PrairieThunder last year. Players with less than 60 games at the pro level qualify as rookies. IHL teams must have four rookies in their lineups each night.
Other newcomers making the roster were Craig Macdonald, Brian Boulay and Justin Sawyer. The average age of the team is 28.
The PrairieThunder opens the regular season Oct. 17 in Muskegon with its home opener Oct. 24 against Dayton at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Tickets for all PrairieThunder games are available at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum box office, calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or 309-585-0507, ext. 304.
The Bloomington PrairieThunder is in its fourth season and competes in the International Hockey League. The IHL is a Class AA+ professional league. Other league members are the Dayton Gems, the Flint Generals, Fort Wayne Komets, Muskegon Lumberjacks, Port Huron IceHawks and Quad City Mallards. The PrairieThunder plays its games at 6,700-seat U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.
