PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks announced that they have added a local player to their roster with the signing of defenseman Nick Rolls. Per team policy, details of the deal were not disclosed.

Rolls (6-0, 195 lbs) is a 23-year old Marysville, Michigan native who returns to the Blue Water Area after a successful collegiate hockey career at the State University of New York - Plattsburgh. The offensive-defenseman tallied impressive numbers during his four years in college, averaging nearly a point per game. His 107 points (33g, 74a) in 112 college games ranks him seventh among defenseman in scoring in Plattsburgh history.

Last season, he helped lead Plattsburgh to an impressive 24-2-2 record and the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs with 29 points (5g, 24a) in just 22 games.

A three-time selection to the Men's Hockey ALL-SUNYAC First Team, he also played three seasons of junior hockey with the Sarnia Blast in the Western Ontario Hockey League.

Rolls attended training camp with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League and the Toledo Walleye in the East Coast Hockey League this fall.

"Nick is a player who can really play. He is an offensive defenseman that will bring youth and excitement to our team," Head Coach and General Manager Stan Drulia said. "I was hoping to sign him this summer and feel fortunate that we were able to pick him up before the start of the season."

The signing of Rolls brings the Icehawks roster to 22 players, including 11 forwards, nine defensemen and two goalies as they gear up for the season opener. The lineup currently includes six rookies and seven veterans.
