2004-05 Leading Scorer Pettersen Returns

Missouri River Otters News Release


The Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League agreed to terms with Lars Pettersen, the club's leading scorer last season.

"Lars was a very valuable member of our team last season, and we're thrilled to have him back," River Otters Head Coach Kevin Kaminski said. "He has great hands and sees the ice very well. In addition, he's terrific on the power-play and the penalty kill."

Pettersen, 28, scored 24 goals and added 42 assists for a team-best 66 points in 80 games for the River Otters last season. The 6'2'', 205-pound center also led the team with two shorthanded goals and proved very effective in the shootout, converting on 8 of 16 attempts for a 50 percent success rate. The McBride, BC-native has played 13 games in the AHL, scoring three goals and one assist. He played alongside River Otters Player/Assistant Coach Brad Church with the ECHL's Reading Royals in 2003-04. Pettersen scored five goals in one period with the ECHL's Augusta Lynx on February 11, 1999.

The River Otters also agreed to terms with Ryan Scapinello, a forward who spent the last four seasons with Lake Forest College (NCAA Division III). The 5'9'', 185-pounder scored 16 goals and added 32 points in 108 games with Lake Forest from 2001-2005, and served as team captain the last two seasons. He registered a positive plus/minus rating all four years, and finished a cumulative +37. Scapinello is the son of NHL linesman Ray Scapinello.
