14ers Handle D-Fenders, 103-85, in Showcase
January 16, 2007 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Jan. 16, 2006 - Four Colorado starters scored in double figures as the 14ers overpowered the Los Angeles D-Fenders, 103-85, Tuesday at the Sioux Falls Arena as part of the 2007 NBA Development League MLK Showcase.
Colorado (13-6) matches Idaho's win earlier in the day as the two battle for the top spot in the Western Division. The D-Fenders head to Albuquerque for a Friday game with a 10-10 record. Colorado wraps up Showcase play Wednesday with an 8 p.m. CT tip against the Dakota Wizards (14-3).
"We really keyed in on what we needed to do," Colorado coach Joe Wolf said. "We did a nice job of helping each other. The game is about five guys on the court and the guys on the bench coming in and providing effort and energy. We did that tonight."
Von Wafer led the 14ers with 19 points, followed by Elton Brown with 15 points and eight rebounds. Pooh Jeter recorded 10 points and dished out 11 assists. P.J. Tucker, on assignment from the Toronto Raptors, added 12 points.
There were 14 lead changes in a tight first half until Colorado took over in the third. The 14ers started the quarter with a 22-7 run and ended up outrebounding the D-Fenders 52-36.
Sean Banks led Los Angeles scorers with 19 points and Brian Chase added 18. Kevin Johnson scored 17. Andre Patterson led all rebounders in the game with 12.
