14 SaberCats available in Expansion Draft

October 5, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2006) - The San Jose SaberCats have left 14 rostered players unprotected and available for the Arena Football League's 2006 Expansion Draft, which will take place on Friday, October 6, at 10:00 a.m. (PT).

The draft will help stock the roster of the New Orleans VooDoo, making its return to the AFL in 2007 following a one-year hiatus due to Hurricane Katrina.

New Orleans may choose a player from any current team who is designated as being "unprotected." Each team is allowed to protect 16 players off its current roster who cannot be selected in the Draft. All other rostered players whose rights they currently control are deemed "unprotected" and eligible to be selected. Each time a team loses a player that team is allowed to pull a player back from its unprotected list.

Six SaberCats who saw game action in 2006 were left unprotected, including: Linemen ALBREY BATTLE, FITU TU'UA and VAN BROWN, FB/LB JAJUAN HUDDLESTON, WR/DB CHARLES PAULEY and K BRIAN SCHMITZ.

Fans may follow the draft live and view a team-by-team breakdown of draft eligible players on the AFL's official website, www.arenafootball.com.
