VooDoo make OL/DL Henry Taylor first addition in free agency

In their continuing effort to build a championship caliber team, the New Orleans VooDoo have signed OL/DL Henry Taylor to a contract, it was announced today by the team.

Taylor (6-3, 290, South Carolina) comes to the VooDoo from the Orlando Predators, where he spent the 2006 season. A four-year AFL veteran, Taylor enjoyed his finest season as a professional in 2006, when he was named a First-Team All-Arena selection and led the AFL in sacks with 8.5. Leading his team to an appearance in ArenaBowl XX, Taylor made 2.5 tackles, one tackle for a loss, one sack and one forced fumble during Orlando's playoff run. In addition to his regular season sack total, Taylor also recorded 16.5 tackles, eight tackles for a loss and one fumble recovery.

Taylor is a four-year Arena Football League veteran who has made 2 tackles, 19.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in his career. He previously was a member of the VooDoo for part of the 2004 season. Prior to starting his AFL career in 2003, Taylor played five seasons in the NFL, playing with the Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.

"We consider building our line to be a priority as we prepare for the 2007 season and Henry was the top available free agent at his position available," said VooDoo coach Mike Neu. "Henry possess outstanding pass rush abilities and has been a member of playoff and championship teams throughout his career. In addition to his on the field contributions, we expect Henry to provide leadership to our younger guys."
