10 WHL Players to Participate at Under-18 World Championship

Calgary, AB - Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, named seven WHL players to Canada's National Men's Under-18 team for the 2015 IIHF U18 World Championship. In addition, three WHL players have been selected to the pre-competition roster. The 2015 IIHF U18 World Championship will be held April 16-26 in Zug and Lucerne, Switzerland.

Team Canada's roster for the 2015 U18 World Championship is comprised or players born in 1997. Players eliminated from playoff competition throughout the CHL will be added to complete Team Canada's roster at a later date.

Barzal, Bear, Harkins, and Sawchenko all won a gold medal with Canada's National Men's Summer Under-18 Team at the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in the Czech Republic and Slovakia last August. Barzal also won bronze at last year's IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship.

Hockey Canada also selected 1998-born players to compete in pre-competition action. Goaltender Stuart Skinner (Edmonton, AB / Lethbridge Hurricanes) and forwards Tyler Benson (Edmonton, AB / Vancouver Giants) and Brett Howden (Oakbank, MB / Moose Jaw Warriors) will suit up for Team Canada ahead of the tournament.

Moose Jaw Warriors Head Coach Tim Hunter will coach Team Canada, while four more WHL personnel were also called on to provide services to the team:

-Tim O'Donovan - Video Manager (Kamloops Blazers)

-Colin Robinson - Equipment Manager (Kamloops Blazers)

-Nick Murray - Athletic Therapist (Vancouver Giants)

-Bernie Bajnok - Education Consultant (Calgary Hitmen)
