Mohegan Wolves News Release

NEW LONDON, Conn. (July 23, 2003) – Now that the Mohegan Wolves (arenafootball2) know they're in the playoffs for the first time in team history, they have turned their focus towards getting home field advantage in the first round.

If the Wolves win at Albany this Saturday (July 26), they would finish the year at 11-5 and lock up the fourth seed in the American Conference. According to the af2 postseason format, the first seeded wildcard team (#4 seed overall) would host the second seeded wildcard team (#5 seed overall) in one of two first round matchups. If the Wolves do solidify the #4 seed, they would host their first round game on Monday, August 4 at Mohegan Sun Arena. The following details how the American Conference playoff race breaks down with one week remaining in the regular season:

American Conference
1. Tennessee Valley (14-1) – x^
2. Albany (12-3)- x^
3. Cape Fear (9-6) (Current Atlantic Division leader)
4. Mohegan (10-5) - y
5. Florida (9-6) – Holds HTH advantage over MAC
6. Macon (9-6)
7. Greensboro (8-7) – Holds HTH advantage over NOR, CHA
8. Charleston (8-7) – Holds HTH advantage over NOR
9. Norfolk (8-7)
10. Birmingham (7-8)

x – clinched division title
y – clinched playoff berth
^ – clinched first round bye
HTH = head-to-head; SOS = strength of schedule

If the Wolves lose at Albany this Saturday, they would hurt their chances of hosting a first round playoff game. In order to keep home field advantage in the first round, Mohegan would need both Florida and Macon to lose on Saturday. Florida plays at Columbus (4-11) while Macon hosts Tennessee Valley (14-1).
