Riptide Season Finale in Two Days

The San Diego Riptide conclude their second season of arenafootball2 action this Friday, July 25 at the Sports Arena versus the Green Bay Blizzard.

Tickets for the Riptide-Blizzard game start at just $8 and can purchased at any TicketMaster location, by calling 619.220.TIXS, online at ticketmaster.com or through sandiegoriptide.com or at the Riptide offices by calling 866.RIPTIDE.

Here's some of the interesting things going on surrounding the game and happenings around town with the team.

BE THERE FOR THE FINAL TWO PRACTICES

Bring your cameras out to the final two Riptide practices for one-on-one shots and talk with the players at the Sports Arena on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30pm and Thursday from 6-7:30pm.

ROCK BOTTOM RIPTIDE RALLY

>From 8-9:30pm on Thursday, July 24 at the downtown location of Rock Bottom, the Riptide players and dancers will be holding their final Riptide Rally of the season.

RIPTIDE AT MAKE-A-WISH ICE CREAM SOCIAL

On Thursday, July 24, Cold Stone Creamery locations will host "The World's Largest Ice Cream Social" from 5-8pm, encouraging members of the community to join together and enjoy the simple pleasures of life with free ice cream, family activities and good-natured fun. Riptide players and dancers will be at various loactions throughout San Diego participating in this worthy event.

ULTIMATE MILITARY CHALLENGE ON FRIDAY

On Friday at 4pm, the Riptide will be hosting their Inaugural Ultimate Military Challenge which will pit the United States Armed Forces against each other in a friendly battle for military supremacy in a ten-event contest that epitomizes teamwork, unity, strength, accuracy and appearance.

The ten events are:
Push-ups (timed)
Pull-ups
Bench Press (225 pounds)
Show Off Your Guns
Rock Wall Climb (timed)
40-yard Dash (timed)
Football Accuracy Throw
Tug-of-War
Branch With Largest Attendance
Best Military Presence

ACTIVE U.S. MILITARY TICKETS JUST $5

The Riptide are honoring the United States' Armed Forces by offering all terrace level seats for just $5 each. All active military members and their families have to do is present an active military ID at the Sports Arena box office for up to four terrace level seats.

RIPTIDE'S FINAL ROSTER MOVES

On Wednesday, the team placed WR/DB Altie Parker on injured reserve following a knee injury in last week's 34-26 loss to Hawaii. Parker was named the game's Ironman despite the injury. In Parker's place, the team was assigned Phil Austin, who spent training camp with the Riptide prior to the season. Austin was college teammates with Riptide rookies Quincy LeJay and Dwight Carter at the University of Hawaii and Mt. San Antonio College. Carter and Austin also attended the same high school (St. Monica in Santa Monica, CA). Austin will wear number 12 this week.

This week's opponent – Green Bay Blizzard The Riptide conclude their 2003 season this Friday night when the Green Bay Blizzard come to town. The Riptide look to avenge their 53-43 loss to the Blizzard back on June 7 that game Green Bay their first franchise win. San Diego looks to win their first game ever in the month of July as they are an overall 0-5 in the seventh month.

The Riptide have played an af2-record 13 of their 16 games this season against playoff teams with four of their wins coming to this post-seson bound opponents.

RIPTIDE-BLIZZARD TO HONOR FALLEN af2 PLAYER

The Riptide and Blizzard will be wearing a sticker on the back of their helmets in memory of Bakersfield Blitz FB/LB Julian Yearwood who passed away last week. There will also be a moment of silence in his honor before the start of the game.
