Westchester Knicks News Release

WHITE PLAINS, NY,-The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, won its lone preseason match-up at home 107-103 against the Long Island Nets, the Brooklyn Nets' affiliate, in late comeback fashion. One of three new members of the league this season, Long Island joins Westchester as the second NBA D-League team in New York State.

Westchester struck first in the match-up, with returner Devondrick Walker making a quick jumper to tip-off the season. Long Island spent the first three minutes chasing the Knicks' lead before taking control for the remainder of the quarter, led by guard Donnie McGrath with eight points.

The Knicks kept pace with Long Island in the second quarter, starting with a 9-1 run to close the gap to just one. But the Nets answered with a run of their own, climbing back up to a ten-point lead, and continued a double-digit lead for the majority of the quarter. Despite eight points from forward Damien Inglis, Westchester found themselves down by 10 at the half, Long Island leading 55-45.

Long Island's Trahson Burrell went on a tear for seven points in a row early in the third, with the Nets going up by as many as 15 points in the quarter. An 8-3 run from Westchester came too late in the last few minutes, with the Knicks still stuck at a 10-point deficit heading into the final quarter.

Midway through the fourth, back-to-back dunks from New York Knicks assignees Ron Baker and Marshall Plumlee catapulted Westchester to its first tie since the first quarter. Coming back from a 12-point deficit in the quarter, the Knicks took the lead off a fouled lay-up from forward Damien Inglis and never looked back, outscoring Long Island 36-22. In the first edition of "Battle of the 'Burbs," Westchester came away with the win, the final score 107 -103.

Knicks guard Ron Baker finished with a game-high 26 points, with six rebounds and three steals. Fellow NBA Assignee Marshall Plumlee notched a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Damien Inglis recorded his own with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
