Westchester Knicks Nipped at Home by Maine Red Claws

WHITE PLAINS, NY - The Westchester Knicks (13-19), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, fell 99-85 at the Westchester County Center tonight to the Atlantic Division- leading Maine Red Claws (22-12), the Boston Celtics' affiliate.

In his first home appearance for Westchester, guard John Jenkins paced the team with 21 points. Jordon Crawford chipped in 20 points, converting on 9 of his 16 field goal attempts while adding five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Keith Wright rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Knicks, adding 10 points to go along with seven rebounds. As a team, Westchester made just two total free throw attempts, Jaylen Bond hitting 2-of-2.

Every starter scored in double figures for the Red Claws, led by Abdel Nader who scored an impressive 23 points and knocked down six of his ten shots from beyond the arc. Ryan Kelly earned a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Josh Higgins scored 17 points, grabbing six rebounds dishing out six assists.

Westchester was out in full force as it competed on every possession against its division rival. The Knicks needed to be at its best as they traded baskets throughout the first half with the Red Claws. John Jenkins had the makings of a special performance on his hands as he poured in 19 points through the first two quarters. After a high quality start, Westchester was tied 46-46 with its opponent as they went into halftime.

Maine turned up the pressure in the second half. After a competitive third quarter, Westchester's greatest assets were neutralized by pesky Red Claws defending. After his explosive start, Jenkins was held to only two points in the final two quarters. Jordon Crawford was able to pick up the slack with 18 points, but it wasn't enough to capture the victory.

The Westchester Knicks return to the Westchester County Center tomorrow, Feb. 11 to welcome the Northern Arizona Suns, the Phoenix Suns' new affiliate, for a 5:00 p.m. contest. Tomorrow will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The game will be broadcast on MSG Networks and streaming live on Facebook Live.
