
Westchester Knicks Lose Steam in Loss to Red Claws

PORTLAND, ME - The Westchester Knicks (16-25), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, fell 93-85 in its final matchup of the season against the division-leading Maine Red Claws (26-17), the Boston Celtics' affiliate. If the Canton Charge wins its game today against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Knicks will be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
Guard Kevin Capers led Westchester in scoring with 21 points, including four each of rebounds and assists, and also adding three steals. Guard Doron Lamb contributed 18 points with six rebounds in the loss, while guard John Jenkins finished with 15 points and three assists. Forward Keith Wright finished with double-digits for his fourth game in a row, ending with 10 points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots. On assignment from the New York Knicks, forward Maurice Ndour provided seven points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Maine's Abdel Nader led all scorers in the game with 30 points, falling just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds, while also swiping three steals. Jalen Jones collected a double-double with 15 points and eight rebounds, also swatting two blocked shots. Marcus Georges-Hunt finished with 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Demetrius Jackson was the ultimate ball-handler with 12 assists and seven rebounds on five points.
The Knicks started strong in the first half, shooting 61 percent in the first quarter and taking as high as a 15-point lead over the Red Claws. Maine had the stronger second quarter, taking advantage of 10 Westchester turnovers for 13 points, but still trailed the Knicks by two heading into the second half.
Both teams struggled in the third, Westchester shooting 35 percent with Maine only slightly better at 38 percent. By the end of the quarter, the Red Claws managed to take a one-possession lead. Despite going 0-for-5 from downtown in the fourth, Maine's shooting continued to stay ahead overall of Westchester, the home team also outrebounding the Knicks by grabbing more than twice as many. Despite an 11-point fourth quarter effort from Westchester's Kevin Capers, the visitors ran out of steam and fell 93-85 to Maine.
The Westchester Knicks will wrap up its long stretch of road games with an afternoon match in Brooklyn against the Long Island Nets, the Brooklyn Nets' affiliate, on Tuesday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on Facebook Live.
