Westchester Knicks Keep Swarm at Bay in Road Win
November 16, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, saw its first win of the season against the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets' new affiliate, in the team's second game.
Westchester tipped off what seemed would become a massacre by scoring a franchise-record 41 points in the first quarter, outscoring the Swarm by 22 points as the home team managed to put up just 19 points. Greensboro put up a fight, however, outscoring the Knicks in each of the remaining three quarters to lessen the sting of the first twelve minutes.
Taking advantage of a lackluster third quarter performance from Westchester, the Swarm hacked away at the deficit, eventually closing within two in the final minute of the game, and again with 13.2 seconds on the clock. But the Knicks held steady, and managed to squeak out a 117-112 win over Greensboro in a game that ended surprisingly close.
Chasson Randle led the Knicks in the win with 28 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. On assignment from the New York Knicks, center Marshall Plumlee notched a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds for Westchester while forward Damien Inglis contributed 15 points, adding 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Additional double-digit scorers included guard Jordon Crawford with 18 points, guard Devondrick Walker with 16 points, and newly acquired guard Doron Lamb with 11 points.
Major contributors for the Swarm included guard Xavier Munford, who had a game-high 33 points with nine assists and five rebounds. Center Mike Tobey put up a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds with an additional three blocks, while Damien Wilkins had one of his own with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Rasheed Sulaimon rounded out the top performers for Greensboro with 27 points.
The Westchester Knicks will tip-off its third season at the historic Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 5:00 p.m., to face the Greensboro Swarm once again. The game will be broadcast live on MSG Networks and on Facebook Live.
