Westchester Knicks Grab Fifth in a Row in Warriors Defeat

November 30, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release

WHITE PLAINS, NY - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, won its fifth contest in a row by defeating the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Golden State Warriors' affiliate, 99-98 in an exhilarating back-and-forth match that saw 22 lead changes and 16 ties. Westchester broke its all-time attendance record in the annual School Day match, as 3,341 fans were on hand to witness the win.

Guard Chasson Randle paced the Knicks in the win with 24 points, adding four assists and three rebounds. Forward Damien Inglis notched his third double-double in a row, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds while also knocking down two blocks. Back on assignment with Westchester from the Milwaukee Bucks, guard Rashad Vaughn supplied 14 points off the bench, while starter Doron Lamb also finished with 14 points. Bigs Keith Wright and Jaylen Bond combined for 22 of the team's 48 rebounds: Wright with 12 and Bond with 10.

Santa Cruz's Elgin Cook led all scorers with 33 points off the bench, also grabbing seven boards and four assists. Guard Phil Pressey had 27 points, with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Center Dennis Clifford and guard Cameron Jones rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Warriors, with 15 and 10 respectively.

The teams were slow to start, both struggling to find shots as the Warriors hit just 35 percent in the first quarter, the Knicks not much better off with 38 percent shooting. The second quarter belonged to three players; for Westchester, Rashad Vaughn went off for 14 points while Santa Cruz's Phil Pressey and Elgin Cook each had 12 points, combining for 24 of the Warriors' 30 points in the second.

With the teams tied 48-48 at the half, Westchester used a strong third quarter to secure its biggest lead of the game with 12 points off a 14-2 run. But Santa Cruz answered with a duplicate 14-2 run to tie it back up and eventually take the lead heading into the final twelve minutes. The fourth quarter was a doozy, as the teams switched one-point leads three times within the final two minutes. A fast break dunk from Santa Cruz's Elgin Cook put the visitors up with 1:02 on the clock, but Westchester regained control off a lay-up from Damien Inglis at 34.5 seconds. A Knicks turnover with 11 seconds left elicited a gasp from the home crowd, but the Warriors were unable to follow-though and the final score remained 99-98, Westchester.

The Westchester Knicks travel to Erie for its next game on Saturday, Dec. 3, in a 7:00 p.m. match-up against the Erie BayHawks, the Orlando Magic's affiliate. The game will be broadcast live on MSG Networks and on Facebook Live.
