Westchester Knicks News Release
NEWARK, DE - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, lost its season opener on the road against the Delaware 87ers, the Philadelphia 76ers' affiliate, the final score 121-108.
Chasson Randle, one of three affiliate players for Westchester, was the first to put points on the board for the Knicks, but Delaware was in control for the majority of the first quarter. Westchester managed to take the lead with three minutes left but a 12-3 run from Delaware had the home team on top 29-22 to end the first twelve minutes.
The 87ers' run continued into the second as they used a 9-0 bout to take a 13-point lead early in the quarter. Feeling the pressure, the Knicks answered with a 12-0 run of their own to close the gap. Westchester managed to tie it up behind a combined 25 first half points from Devondrick Walker and Chasson Randle, but Delaware used the final two minutes of the second to secure a 58-52 lead at the half.
Guard Dionte Christmas went off for Delaware for 16 points in the third, but Westchester held steady and managed to squeak out one more point on the quarter with the help of 10 points from Chasson Randle. The Knicks ran out of gas in the fourth though, managing just 20 points on 29 percent shooting in the final quarter. Westchester found itself on the wrong side of its season opener, falling 121-108 to Delaware.
Chasson Randle finished with a team-high 25 points for Westchester to go with four rebounds. Knicks guard Devondrick Walker did a little bit of everything, with 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block.
