The Nets not only caught up to the Knicks, but overtook the lead by as many as nine to end the first half. The Knicks fared better in the third, hitting half of its shots from downtown though both teams shot under 40 percent overall in the quarter. An 8-1 run made up of six free throws from Long Island put the home team ahead 14 points but Westchester chipped away over the next four minutes to come back within two. With just over eight minutes left in the game, Westchester regained the lead but it only lasted one possession as the Nets quickly took it back and held on to ultimately win the contest.
