Warriors Render Opponents Winless in Preseason Tri-Game

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Salt Lake City Stars 52-38 and the Reno Bighorns 55-40 on Sunday in their lone preseason tri-game at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Elgin Cook paced the Warriors with a combined 21 points in the match-ups against the two teams. Scott Wood added a combined 17 points for Santa Cruz, helping pace the team to consecutive victories.

In an exhibition game that consisted of six 12-minute periods, the Warriors played the first two quarters against the Stars. Scott Wood would set the tone early, hitting two buckets from beyond-the-arc in the first minute of play, giving the Warriors an early edge. Santa Cruz would maintain a comfortable lead throughout the match-up, finishing with a 52-38 win over Salt Lake City.

After a 15-minute break, Santa Cruz resumed play against the Reno Bighorns for the next two periods. Terrence Drisdom scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, while Amere May Jr. and Elgin Cook added 7 apiece to keep Santa Cruz at a comfortable distance from Reno. The Warriors would maintain their lead to secure a 55-40 win over their second opponent of the night.

The tri-game finale saw a match-up between the Salt Lake City Stars and the Reno Bighorns for the remaining two periods of play. Henry Sims would explode for 17 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Stars to victory, defeating the Bighorns 60-50 to close the preseason game.

The Santa Cruz Warriors' 2016-17 season opens at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Saturday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Fans can watch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, via www.santacruzbasketball.com.
