Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (9-8) defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce (13-4) 115-98 on Tuesday night in front of a fourteenth consecutive sellout crowd at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
The Warriors were paced LaDontae Henton who notched 25 points and 6 rebounds. Dennis Clifford recorded a double-double, adding 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists for the Warriors. Phil Pressey notched 18 points and 3 assists.
Luis Montero led the Skyforce with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Keith Benson added a double-double for the Skyforce with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Okaro White added 15 points and 6 rebounds.
Santa Cruz got off to a slow start in the opening quarter, shooting a mere 28.6% from the field, while the Skyforce knocked down 50% of their shots. The Skyforce continued to keep the Warriors out of striking distance, ensuring a nine-point advantage by the end of the first quarter.
The momentum remained with the visitors to begin the second period behind a 13-4 run to open their lead to as many as 16 points by the 7:59 mark. The Warriors responded with a 19-4 run over a five-minute stretch to cut the deficit to 1 point. The remainder of the frame remained a closely-contested battle as LaDontae Henton's 16 first-half points helped Santa Cruz tie up the score at 52-all heading into the break.
A driving hook-shot from Dennis Clifford in the opening minutes of the third quarter would mark a Santa Cruz lead that would not be relinquished for the remainder of the game.
The Warriors dominated the final frame, outscoring the Skyforce 34-21 to lead by as many as 21 points. Phil Pressey and LaDontae Henton combined for 17 points in the fourth to fuel the home win.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will host the Northern Arizona Suns on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 7:00 p.m. PST at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Fans can catch the game on Facebook Live, by visiting the Santa Cruz Warriors' Facebook page at tip-off.
