Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Arizona - The Santa Cruz Warriors (5-7) defeated the Northern Arizona Suns (10-2) 107-93 on Wednesday night at the Prescott Valley Event Center. Six different Warriors (three off the bench) scored in double-figures in the victory that handed the Sun their first loss on their home court this season.
Santa Cruz received a solid performance from Scott Wood, who recorded 22 points, going 5-of-7 from beyond-the-arc to go with 6 rebounds. Cam Jones scored 18 points, while Alex Hamilton came off the bench to notch 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Newly acquired forward James Southerland scored 12 points in his debut for Santa Cruz.
Phoenix Suns assignee Alan Williams paced Northern Arizona with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Tyler Ulis, also on assignment from Phoenix, Derrick Jones Jr., and Elijah Milsap each added 13 points.
Both teams shot the ball well in the opening frame (NAZ 50% - SCW 44%) and stayed close heading into the second quarter. Santa Cruz outscored Northern Arizona 27-14 to lead by 16 points entering the locker room, handing the Suns their largest halftime deficit this season.
A buzzer-beater at the end of the third quarter from Tyler Ulis would put the Suns within striking distance of the Warriors, 5 points out from eclipsing the Santa Cruz lead.
Santa Cruz would never relinquish their hold on the Suns, keeping a comeback win out of reach for the hosts and snapping their seven-game win streak.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will return home to host the Northern Arizona Suns on Friday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. PST at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Fans can catch the game on Facebook Live, by visiting the Santa Cruz Warriors' Facebook page at tip-off. Santa Cruz Warriors tickets can be purchased at the Santa Cruz Warriors headquarters at 903 Pacific Avenue, online at www.santacruzbasketball.com or over the phone at (831) 713-4400.
