Warriors Fall to the Red Claws

PORTLAND, Maine - The Santa Cruz Warriors (2-7) were defeated by the Maine Red Claws (7-2) 115-106 on Saturday night at the Portland Exhibition Building.

The Warriors were paced by Scott Wood, who notched 26 points on 5-of-8 shooting from behind the arc. Guard Phil Pressey contributed 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Dennis Clifford and Cameron Jones added 14 points each.

Jalen Jones led the Red Claws with 28 points and 6 rebounds, while Demetrius Jackson finished with 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jordan Mickey recorded a double-double, accounting for 22 points and 15 rebounds for Maine.

The opening half was a tightly-contested battle that saw 12 ties and 10 lead changes with neither team leading by more than 6 points. The first half ended with Santa Cruz leading Maine 56-54.

The close battle continued through the start of the third quarter before the Warriors went on a 10-0 run midway through the frame. This would extend Santa Cruz's lead to 12 at the 6:12 mark, their largest lead of the night.

The Red Claws outscored the Warriors 40-28 in the final frame, powered by 13-0 run that began in the closing minutes of the third quarter. Santa Cruz would attempt a comeback, though another 12-0 run by Maine extended the hosts' lead to 11, their largest cushion of the night. The Warriors were unable to combat Maine's late surge, ultimately falling to the Red Claws.
