
Warriors Drop Wire-To-Wire Thriller

WHITE PLAINS, New York -The Santa Cruz Warriors (2-5) fell to the Westchester Knicks (5-1) 99-98 in a matinee thriller on Wednesday at Westchester County Center.
Santa Cruz received an explosive performance from Elgin Cook, who came off the bench to notch 33 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Phil Pressey tallied 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Dennis Clifford contributed with 15 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.
The Knicks were paced by guard Chasson Randle who recorded 24 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Damien Inglis recorded a double-double for the Knicks, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Rashad Vaughn, playing on assignment from the Milwuakee Bucks, and Doron Lamb contributed with 14 points apiece in the victory over Santa Cruz.
The opening half was a tightly-contested battle that saw 15 lead changes and 11 ties, with neither team holding a lead greater than six points. The teams would head into the locker room tied at 48-all, as Elgin Cook led all scorers with 17 first-half points.
Westchester started the third quarter on a 16-6 run to take a 10-point lead at the 6:33 mark. Santa Cruz responded with a 21-4 run to take a 75-70 lead at the 52.8 second mark. Westchester's Jordon Crawford would make a driving lay-up to cut the Warriors' advantage to three points heading into the final frame.
With time winding down in the fourth quarter, Westchester's Damien Inglis made a lay-up with 34.5 seconds on the clock to give the hosts a one-point lead. The Warriors would re-gain possession off of a steal from Phil Pressey, who ultimately could not convert on the opposite end of the floor with time expiring.
