Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors (6-7) defeated the Northern Arizona Suns (10-3) 113-89 on Friday night in front of a thirteenth consecutive sellout crowd at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Six Warriors scored in double-figures in an effort that solidified a two-game shut-out against the Suns this week.
The Warriors were paced by LaDontae Henton, who scored 18 points in his Santa Cruz debut, going 4-of-5 from beyond-the-arc. Alex Hamilton finished with 16 points, while Mychel Thompson added 15 points. Damian Jones, on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, scored 15 points and 9 rebounds.
Josh Gray led the Suns with 28 points, while Johnny O'Bryant III added 20 points and 9 rebounds. Elijah Milsap added 14 points for Northern Arizona.
The Warriors looked to find their footing early in the first frame to combat the 16-9 start from Northern Arizona. The Warriors found their groove in the final minutes of the opening quarter with a 14-0 run that would give them a seven-point edge to start the second period.
An attempt at a comeback from the Suns was shut down by three consecutive three-point shots from Alex Hamilton and LaDontae Henton to give the Warriors a double-digit advantage. Henton and Cook would combine for 27 points in the first half to help the Warriors to an eleven-point surplus at the break.
The Warriors would continue to extend their distance from the Suns throughout the second half of the game, leading by as many as 34 points. The Warriors cruised to a 113-89 victory and finished the game shooting 53.8% from beyond-the-arc, their highest three-point efficiency all season.
The Santa Cruz Warriors travel to Des Moines to take on the Iowa Energy on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 5:00 p.m. PST at Wells Fargo Arena. Fans can catch the game on Facebook Live, by visiting the Santa Cruz Warriors' Facebook page at tip-off.
