SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Santa Cruz Warriors (8-5) won easily on Friday night at the Sanford Pentagon, defeating the home-team Sioux Falls Skyforce (5-5) 104-84. The game marked the third loss in the last four games at home for the Skyforce.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Skyforce 31-16 in the opening quarter and never looked back. Santa Cruz never trailed in the contest, and led by as many as 31 points while shooting 51.6 percent from the field. The well-rounded Warriors attack was paced by Georges Niang (22 points and eight rebounds), who made 10-of-16 field goal attempts on the night and scored a game-high 22 points. Golden State Warriors assignee Damian Jones tallied the only double-double between the two teams, scoring 17 points and collecting 15 rebounds on the night.
The Skyforce were plagued by poor shooting for the majority of the game, managing just a 34.1 percent field goal percentage on the night. Tony Mitchell (18 points) was the only Skyforce player to shoot 40 percent or better from three point range, though the team hoisted 50 three-point attempts as a group.
The Miami HEAT two-way tandem of Derrick Walton Jr. (10 points and seven assists) and Matt Williams Jr. (10 points) each scored in double figures, while Erik McCree (15 points and seven rebounds) and Ike Nwamu (15 points) rounded out the double-digit scoring for Sioux Falls in the loss.
The Skyforce will look to rebound against Santa Cruz as Sioux Falls travels to the west coast to take on the Warriors at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Sunday, December 3 in a game that will mark the first of a five-game road trip for the Skyforce.
