
Troy Williams Crowned 2017 D-League Slam Dunk Champion

New Orleans, LA - Troy Williams defeated defending champion John Jordan of Raptors 905 in the final round to win the 2017 NBA D-League All-Star Slam Dunk contest, presented by Verizon, Saturday afternoon at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
With the victory, Williams becomes the first player in Iowa Energy history to capture the Slam Dunk title.
The final round, which took place during halftime of the 2017 D-League All-Star game, consisted of two dunks per participant. Out of a possible 50 points per dunk, Williams scored 44 and 41 points respectively to defeat Jordan (39, 38).
Preliminaries were held earlier in the morning and began as a field of six including: Trashon Burrell (Long Island), Alfonso McKinnie (Windy City), Derek Cooke Jr. (Northern Arizona), Alex Poythress (Fort Wayne), Jordan (Raptors 905), and Williams (Iowa). Poythress was injured and did not participate in the event.
The first round consisted of two dunks per contestant, with the highest two scores reaching the finals. Williams' first two dunks of 46 and a perfect score of 50 gave him the highest total of the round.
