Stingrays Gain Scoring Punch with Addition of Rob Flick

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals, have agreed to terms with veteran forward Rob Flick, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Ryan Warsofsky announced today.

"We're really excited to add Rob," said Warsofsky. "He's got a great resume, and he is a forward who can help us in our top six. We'll look to him to contribute a little more offensively than he was in the American Hockey League. He's a guy that the fans will notice as he uses his big body to play a physical style. He's going to be a big part of this group."

Flick, 25, was a fourth round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2010 NHL Draft. He has spent the past five seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) as part of the Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, and Florida Panthers organizations. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward enjoyed his best professional season with the Providence Bruins of the AHL in 2014-15 when he scored 24 points (19 goals, five assists) in 65 games. After signing with the Panthers, Flick spent last year with the club's AHL affiliate in Portland, scoring 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) in 60 games. He had two points in five playoff games for Portland, scoring the triple-overtime goal to win Game 3 of the club's opening round series versus South Carolina's AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears.

"I played with Ryan Warsofsky's brother, David, in Providence, so I know the Warsofsky family," said Flick. "After talking to Ryan, I was excited about this opportunity. I was with Boston when South Carolina was affiliated with them, so I knew a lot about the Stingrays organization, including how highly everyone spoke about the team and the success they've had. As strong as the Stingrays have been in recent years, I'm looking to come in and create offense and help the team win a Kelly Cup."

Never afraid to drop the gloves, Flick, a London, Ontario native, has skated in 279 career AHL games, scoring 70 points (38 goals, 32 assists) in addition to racking up 439 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 17 games with the Toledo Walleye during his rookie season in 2011-12, scoring 10 points (four goals, six assists).

In junior hockey, Flick was an accomplished scorer for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He had 99 points (46 goals, 53 assists) and 393 penalty minutes in 181 games, and led his club to the 2011 Memorial Cup Finals.
