Skyforce Ride Big First Half to Blowout against Legends
January 7, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Skyforce lost two games on their three-game road trip to cap 2016. They looked pretty thrilled to be back at the Sanford Pentagon Friday night.
The Skyforce (15-5) rode a 79-point first half to a 148-122 blowout of the Texas Legends (10-8) to remain perfect in nine games at home this season. Sioux Falls has won 19 straight regular season games at home dating to last season.
The 148 points mark a new season high, the previous coming in a 128-125 road win over the Los Angeles D-Fenders Dec. 28.
Skyforce guard Briante Weber jumpstarted the team's avalanche of scoring as he opened the game 6-for-6 from the floor, including two from deep, for 14 points in the game's first five minutes.
It wasn't all Weber in the first quarter, though, as Sioux Falls put up 46 points in the frame on 75 percent shooting.
Sioux Falls never slowed down, holding a double digit lead from that point on.
Weber finished with 23 points, 10 assists and six steals. In his first game since being named NBA D-League Player of the Month for December, Keith Benson posted a double-double in the first half alone, finishing with a game-high 25 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Ike Nwamu chipped in 20 points as seven total Skyforce players scored in double figures.
Malik Beasley and Juan Hernangomez, both on assignment from the Denver Nuggets, had solid games for Sioux Falls.
Hernangomez scored 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked two shots in 26 minutes of action. Beasley poured in 16 points on 6-of-11 from the floor with three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Sioux Falls and Texas face off again Saturday night at 7 pm at the Pentagon. The Skyforce will attempt to tie the D-League record for longest home winning streak, set by the Idaho Stampede across the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.
